Italian Foreign Minister Tajani: Turkey can play a decisive role in Ukraine negotiations

Turkey may and has already done a lot to settle the conflict in Ukraine, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said

Turkey together with the UN, the US, China and the Vatican can play a decisive role in facilitating negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Radio 1.

According to him, Turkey can and has already done a lot.

“I believe that Turkey together with the UN, the Vatican, China and the US can play a decisive role in pushing Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table, which will lead to a cease-fire and then to peace,” the Italian foreign minister said (quoted by TASS).

At the same time, he said that Italy intends to support Ukraine and defend its independence.

Turkey has repeatedly offered mediation efforts to resolve the conflict since the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine. In March 2022, Istanbul became a platform for dialogue between Moscow and Kiev (the talks were later suspended completely in May).

With the participation of Ankara and the UN last summer, Russia and Ukraine separately concluded agreements on the export of Ukrainian grain. Among the recent initiatives of the Turkish authorities is the creation of a humanitarian corridor for the exchange of prisoners between Moscow and Kiev.
